The Provocative “sexy” in Print Advertisement

3 05 2011

Why the hell do they do that?

Hello folks ;-) today we found an article about print ads and how they look like in todays society.Check it out -> The Provocative “sexy” in Print Advertisement

The article tells us about a spefically ad with a nude supermodel. And that the product behind the ad is not even on the poster. So it’s all about the model and how it affects the audience. This new “method” is very popular in the US and Great Britain but in Austria these kind of advertisement is not so widely used but you can also see it. It’s all about to shock the audience and to get their attention and thats what these kind of ads do, they really grab the attention of us consumers. So, tell us: What do you do when you see such an advertisement? You talk about it, right? And so you have the ad as well as the product  in your mind an so many consumers buy the product.

Today there are more and more advertisements that are too sexy or even with nude models. Most of the time these models are women but today there also exists some ads with nude men. Is this good or even worse?

Let’s see some examples:

In this advertisement we can see a male model, who is nude but what does it tell us? For what product is the ad? The headline tell us that it is for an anti-aging cream. What do you say about it?

This is a much more controversial advertisement than the other one. It’s a car ad and the slogan says “Your know you’re not the first” – which is obviously equivocal!

The next on is a typical underwear advertisement and is not really shocking.

What do you say to this ad?

It’s a perfume for MEN but as you can see a naked WOMAN touts for the product and in an extreme provocative and controversial position!!!

We think that all these kind of advertisements are really provocative and controversial but also they are’nt good for our society and especially not good for our children. We hope that these methods will disapear in a few years but we think that this will never happen, it’s much more obvious that this kind of campaign will grow.

Folks now it’s your turn to give us comments on these ads. Please be honest with us and as we always say: Don’t forget to fight for your rights! :-)

Feminist TV Characters

27 04 2011

What the hell – these ladies rock!

Most of the female TV characters we know are more likely to be stupid and look like a supermodels at the same time but right now we found an article with 20 Feminist TV Characters.

And where is the perfect place to post it? Yes of course here!

This is why we want to show you some of them. As austrian girls we don’t know all of them and so we made our focus on those figures:

Our first character is Marcy Darcy from the television show “Married…with children”. She was the breadwinner of the family in both(!) of her marriages. For us she was always the tough woman, with a lot of enthusiasm for feminism but she is also a lovely wife and good friend for Peggy.

The next example and unfortunately a fictional character is the most famous cartoon caracter of all time – Lisa Simpson. She is only 8 years old and fights for the women’s right. Although she has a doll called Malibu Stacey she proclaims it because she looks like a supermodel with big boobs and long blond hair, so she makes her own doll with a company but nobodys likes the doll because it`s too feministic for the world and the typical doll buyer.  She also complains her mother to be a stay-at-home woman. And she hates the attidude of men.

Roseanne Conner from Roseanne is not the typical feminist because she has a household and cares about her family but she had a few jobs in her life and still works athough she has children. She is a tough woman with lot of power and never keep her mouth shut. And Roseanne was an overweight female lead character whose likability did not depend on her appearance.

One of the newest show characters is Rory Gilmore from the TV show “Gilmore Girls”.  She grew up with her mother and since she was born she fought for her rights as a woman. She’s in a way  the typical feministic girl, she likes to read (authors like Sylvia Plath, Jane Austen, Eudora Welthy or Simone de Bouvour), is intelligent and her dream became true when she visited the Yale University to study Journalism. In the end she decides to live her dream instead of becoming the wife of her boyfriend. Rory is a stong charakter especially in todays society and this gives us hope. More TV shows should create characters like Rory!

An older one is Buffy Summers from “Buffy the vampire slayer”. Even though Buffy is a blond and skinny girl she is really tough and smart. She shows us that nobody should have prejudices against blond women!

Than we have Miranda Hobbes from “Sex and the city”. Of course all four characters from the show have a feminist touch but Miranda is the one who shows it the most. She works as a lawyer (which is notorious a manly job) and still does not get the same attention as the men in her company. Later she has her child but is still the breadwinner. She’s a loveable mother and wife but works her ass off and fights for her rights especially in her job.  ;-)

And last but not least we have Hermine Granger from the “Harry Potter” series. She is not the typical feminist girl but she fights for her rights in the magical world. She is the one who helps her male friends out.  She is very intelligent and likes to read and learn more about the magical world. So we think that she has also a bit of a feminist touch.

Here is an interesting article about Television and Fictional Feminism by Rachael Horowitz. If you want to read it here is the link.

We hope you liked this list of feminist characters and don’t forget to fight for your rights girls! :-)

“No kids, no jobs for growing number of wives”

27 04 2011

Again, why the hell women do that?

In our last entry (which was yesterday ;-) you can see it below) we talked about Dr. Scott Haltzman and his opinion about stay-at-home-women. Today we found an article about him and his book; and in the article there are some quotes of women. Take a look -> CNN Article

The article is about stay-at-home women. One example is  Anne Marie Davis, 34, she  lives in Lewisville, Texas, isn’t a mother, nor does she telecommute. She is a fulltime stay-at-home wife.  Ten years ago, she was an “overwhelmed” high school English teacher. “I didn’t have time for my husband, ” she says, “and I didn’t have a life.”

Dr. Haltzman says that in todays society there is a large number of women who wants to stay at home and take care of the household. This amount is still growing. After we read it we had this following questions in our head: “Why this number of fulltime stay at home wives in America growing? Is it because a lot of women feel the same like Miss Davis? Overwhelmed? Is to stay at home for them like  holidays forever? Why do they want that? What kind of statement is that in the part of feminism?”

Feminism takes a long journey! It all started in the 17th century from some ideas in the work of Marie Le Jars de Gournay in which she proclaimed the human rights. The journey for the rights of women continued and many women proclaimed against some declarations. (18th and 19th century) But it all begins with the First Wave Feminism in the middle of the 19th century where women fight for their right to sit in parliament, to become more educated, to have an  equality in marriage, to have a divorce and to have the right work . Feminism has since then  part of many women all over the world who fight for their rights!

And now there are women who still want to stay-at-home and not go to work although they have the opportunity? WTF !!!

We can understand women who have health issues or take care of their families but women who have nothing to do the whole day and only look after the household and their husbands is like a kick in the ass to the Feminism Movement in our eyes.

For all of you who may think that it`s the lord given  mission of women to look after a men. Did you know this is  antifeministic?  If not (damned where have you been in the last hundred years?)  take a look at this link. It may interests you and yes this ideology is a challenge for feminism.

So for those of you who want to fight for your rights, please don’t give up Ladies! We are by your side ;-)

“For a good marriage, women need to stay at home”

26 04 2011

Why the hell do people think that ?

This is our response to an article we found, so first take a look at it and than you will understand our opinion about it. Here is the link!

You should also take a look at the video it’s really “aaahhh”; after that you will certainly understand what we mean ;-) For those of you who don’t find the link to the video in the article, we are so nice to post it here  -> video.

In our eyes Dr. Scott Haltzman who wrotes the book “The Secrets of Happily Married Men: Eight Ways to Win Your Wife’s Heart Forever”  lives in the wrong century. He is born  in 1960 and still has the idea that women needs to be the Jeannie for the male population and fulfill every desire of them !!!  Come on Doc this is the 21th century and not the 19th.

We  haven`t something against women who wants to stay at home and take care  of their children. That’s not our problem! Our problem is that Dr. Haltzman is stubborn about his opinion and his perception about how women should be. Why should women make their husbands feel like superheroes? Why not the other way round ? We think the Doc never heard the word equality/emancipation before!! And his view  that it´s enough to make the coffee in the morning – what the hell? Yeah, of course that’s roughly the same Mister. And the best sentence of all- when he came home from work he feels like he has conquered the world and needs the full attention of his wife. What kind of a man is that? He is dramatic and exaggerating!

An the woman Ro’ Black. If she wants to stay at home – FINE. But why can’t her husband put the socks not by himself in the washing machine? How old is he – 5 years or what? She says that she shows her husband this way that she cares about him. Ok, but we  think there are many other ways to show your husband that you care and  love him. A marriage is not about cleaning the house or cooking a meal for your husband when he comes home, marriage is about love, trust, affection and commitment like Dr. Janet Taylor says in the video.

This topic was also part of an episode of the famous  TV show “Gilmore Girls”. In Season 1 Episode 14 Rory and Dean have a discussion about “The Donna Reed Show” which was in the 1950s. Donna Reed played a stay-at-home woman just like it’s discussed in the video with Dr. Haltzman. Anyway, Rory has our opinion but she makes some research about Donna Reed and finds out that she was really cool and achieved some things in her life and so Rory decides to make a dinner for Dean in a Donna Reed style. It’s a funny episode! It`s  on YouTube take a look ! :-D

Now it’s your turn – comment what you think about this article and the videos.

We hope that you have an awake moment right now. It´s maybe wrong if you are doing everything for your husband and to have the  feeling of loneliness between  the socks and cocking the meal at the same time. Think about it.

We have the opinion that it doesn`t matter what you do in your life  the main thing is that your are happy with it. That´s all :-)

CU and don’t forget to fight for your rights ladies! ^^

Review about the german scienceblog “hier wohnen drachen”

15 04 2011

What for Godsake has a scienceblog to do with feminism?

If you have this probing question you are right. Normally not a lot. For example the writer (Martin Bäker) is a physicist who investigate the mechanical behaviour of modern materials. Sounds like dry science and not after feminism.

But his scienceblog “hier wohnen drachen”  is different. It checks up different topics of science like biology, evolution, scientific thinking (how you phrase correct) and material science.

Here we want to reflect one article of him. It´s called the “normal sexism in the german language”. It´s about the complex problems of the articulation of german words because in the german language there are a lot of words which used to be alike for female and for male but in reality a lot of humans just connecting  guys with it.  In a way there could be the same problem in the english language. Take the word biker. How many people think first on a woman when they hear the word?

Just think about it.

Here is the link to the article of  “hier wohnen drachen”  :

das-experiment-der-ganz-normale-sexismus-der-deutschen-sprache.php

Have fun with it. :)

In the end you may say. ” I can`t read german. It was foolish to read about it.” All we can answer to it is: “It was fu**ing awesome that you read it!”

If you still have something to ask. Just  raise a question or  leave a comment. We  are thrilled about everything. :)

What else? Don´t forget to fight for your right!!!

F**k!How a feminist looks like?

3 04 2011

For all who have this question. Here are  some  answers for you.

A feminist don`t looks like an angry women. What doesn`t mean that there aren`t angry feminists.

A feminist don`t need to be  a crazy person who hears loud music. What doesn`t means that all feminists like gentle music.

A feminist don`t need to be  a person who doesn`t shave their body. What doesn`t mean that all feminists are beauty queens.

And last but not least a feminist don`t need to be female. What a big surprise!! :)

Here a special link for you. Have fun with it!

What else? Don`t think of how a feminist looks like.  Just be one! And don´t forget to fight for your right!

All the best
